In the latest developments, the release of hostages under the four-day truce between Israel and Hamas is facing a delay and is now expected to commence on Friday.
The truce, aimed at allowing humanitarian aid and freeing at least 50 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for 150 Palestinians jailed in Israel, was initially anticipated to start at 10 am today.
However, Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi stated that the negotiations are ongoing, and the release will adhere to the original agreement, starting not before Friday.
White House spokesperson Adrienne Watson mentioned that the final logistical details for the release are being worked out, expressing hope that the implementation will begin on Friday morning.
A Palestinian official attributed the delay to last-minute details regarding the specific hostages to be released and the modalities of their release. Both sides have exchanged lists of those to be freed.
Despite the truce agreement, there was no cessation of fighting, with reports of Israeli airstrikes and artillery strikes in various parts of Gaza.
The Israeli military claimed to have carried out aerial strikes on over 300 Hamas targets in the past day. The delay in the release is disheartening for families awaiting the return of their loved ones and for the two million-plus Gazans seeking an end to 47 days of intense bombardment and deprivation, with over 14,000 Gazans killed, around 40% of them children.
The situation remains tense with ongoing military actions on both sides.
